Further Info

The last evening of the 10 Parishes Festival sees the opening of the 10th season of Wiveliscombe’s award-winning film society, Cinema Obscura. As ever, the society will be screening a wide variety of films from all around the world in a friendly, informal atmosphere. New members and guests are always welcome. At the time of writing, the programme for the season has not been finalised, but tonight’s film will be “Caramel”, which won the Audience Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival and was commended at the London, Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals. Described in the press as “a heart-warming gem”, “a rare treat” and “a beautiful life-affirming classic” this PG-rated film directed by Nadine Labaki follows five women working in a beauty parlour as they share in each others’ experiences and emotions and the parlour becomes a colourful hub of friendship and wisdom. The film begins at 7.30, but doors are open at 7.00. Come along then, meet the committee and other film-fans and enjoy tea, coffee, soft drinks, crisps and cakes from the Cinema Obscura kiosk. More details from Chairman Eddie Gaines on 01984 624657 or Treasurer Barry Witherden on 01984 629114.
