This workshop is for those who are new to yoga, or who want to find out about this unusual, artistic approach to yoga. It is also for anyone who wants to treat themselves to a morning of peaceful, regenerative activity in beautiful, rural surroundings.
The venue is a rural home between Milverton and Fitzhead where a light and airy yoga studio has recently been built in the garden. The studio was built last year by Wivey-based eco-builder George Aykroyd and includes features such as walls made out of highly insulating “Ziegel” bricks, solar-powered underfloor-heating, and sheeps-wool roof-insulation.
The workshop will include an informal talk in which you can ask questions and find out more about yoga, its history, its purpose and benefits, and why it can be regarded as a form of art. There will be a yoga class which will include relaxation and some of the classical yoga poses. The morning will finish with a delicious vegetarian lunch made using home-grown and local organic produce. Participants may even get to sample some bread cooked in the home-built clay bread-oven! If the weather is fine much of the morning’s activity will take place in the garden.
Karen Patterson has been teaching yoga for 17 years. Her teaching style is influenced chiefly by the German spiritual teacher Heinz Grill who has developed a new, artistic approach to the practice of the classical yoga poses. Each movement is seen as a graceful and artistic gesture of the body and carries a deep inner meaning. So the practice of yoga affects us on different levels. Physically we become stronger and more supple, mentally we become calmer and more focussed, and gradually we learn to develop our capacity for creative expression through the body. For more information about Karen’s yoga classes and her approach, see www.yogainsomerset.co.uk.
Booking is essential for this workshop as numbers are limited. Please phone 01823 400122. You will be asked to send a cheque for £25 (which includes lunch) and will be given directions to the venue.
