The ECHOES workshop is a light-hearted journey through Time: What do we value about the past? What are our hopes of the future? Participants will work with Theatre Mélange to create a “landscape” using images, stories and sound. Absolutely no previous experience necessary!

Theatre Mélange has just moved to the south west to develop an operating base in Somerset. Located between Exmoor and the coastal town of Minehead, work will soon be completed on a new office and small workshop that overlooks the West Somerset Railway.

Originally based at the landmark De La Warr Pavilion in East Sussex, Theatre Mélange is a national and international touring company that has been successfully operating since 1996.

They have developed a style of work that fuses image, text and music to create highly visual, contemporary performance. Alongside productions the company run a range of workshops and residencies to enable people of all ages to explore their own creativity.

Theatre Mélange is also committed to international collaboration and exchange through a programme that links production and research with training for professional artists and young people. Their latest production The Mona Lisas, created in partnership with Teatrul Municipal Ariel from Romania, premiered at Brewhouse Taunton and was selected for London’s Riverside Studios FeEast Festival.

a genuinely innovative work …..the chorus of Mona Lisas used rhythm and repetition to tell their/her story... carefully choreographed movement theatre (used to great effect) enhanced by the artful scenography: fluttering silk costumes, a constantly shifting set of painted and lit screens and boxes, and the power of that constantly returning line of Mona Lisa masks staring us out. Those eyes that face, that smile – a haunting performance.
